How to Cook Turkey on a Traeger Grill the Easy Way
Step 1 Preheat the grill
Set the temperature on your Traeger grill to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Load the hopper with your preferred pellets. Traeger Reserve Blend is a good flavor blend for turkey.
Step 2 Season the turkey
Rub vegetable oil on the outside of the turkey and sprinkle on your favorite rub or seasoning.
Step 3 Place the temperature probe
To monitor the doneness of your turkey during the cook, place a temperature probe into the thickest part of the breast meat. You can use the Meater wireless thermometer or the Traeger probe that comes with your grill.
Step 4 Cook the turkey
Cook the turkey. Approximate Traeger cooking times per pound: 15 minutes per pound, set at 350 degrees.
Step 5 Track the progress
These days, it’s easy to monitor the doneness of your turkey during the cook with a temperature probe and a cooking app. You can use the Meater app or the Traeger app and set alerts when your turkey is done. Generally, the turkey is fully cooked when the thickest part of the breast measures 165 degrees, and the thigh reaches 180 degrees.
Step 6 Serve the turkey
After cooking, rest the turkey, loosely covered with foil, for 15-30 minutes before carving. If you can push your thumb into the turkey and it leaves an impression, you know you have a beautifully cooked, moist turkey.
